International Children’s Festival – FREE performances and activities
Location: University of Pittsburgh green spaces and Schenley Plaza
Date: May 12 through May 16, 2010
Time: Weekdays 9:30 am until 2 pm, Weekend 10 am until 5 pm
Description: FREE children’s performances at the Target Community Stage, along with free hands-on activities and carousel rides. There are also performances that require paid admission, but they are not required to enjoy the free festivities.Visit www.pghkids.org for additional information.
Pop Up Pittsburgh Festival – FREEEvent: Pop Up Pittsburgh Up On the Hilltop Community Festival
Location: Warrington Avenue between Beltzhoover & Arlington Avenues

Time: 1 pm until 5 pm
Description: Pop Up Pittsburgh Up On the Hilltop is a FREE one-day event that will highlight Pittsburgh’s Hilltop neighborhood and feature a variety of activities for kids and adults. This event will include live music performances, the I Made It! Market, food from Hilltop restaurants, sporting events, face painting, crafts, an art show and more.

A Taste of Oakland – $5 or donation of non-perishable food item
Third Annual “A Taste of Oakland” features local retailers and restaurants in the Oakland neighborhood. This event gives the community a chance to explore the great shopping and food the neighborhood has to offer.

Taste of Oakland is Saturday, May 15 from noon until 3 p.m. Admission is $5 per person, or a donation of a non-perishable food item. Taste of Oakland admission is FREE for Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh Members. Tickets will be available the day of the event at the Public Parklet at the corner of Forbes Avenue and South Bouquet Street, or at Eureka Bank, 3455 Forbes Avenue.

“A Taste of Oakland” admission includes samples of food from Oakland restaurants served from the neighborhood’s retailers. Taste of Oakland admission also qualifies attendees for discounts and events in the Oakland neighborhood, including FREE entry into the Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History, FREE entry into Soldiers & Sailors, $5 off any full price ticket to the Pittsburgh Irish and Classical Theatre’s performances of Othello, No Man’s Land or the Hothouse, Code: OBID; $1 off of one show ticket at the Pittsburgh International Children’s Festival.

Pittsburgh Folk Festival – $6 – $10, FREE for 12 & under
Location: Monroeville Convention Center, 101 Mall Boulevard Monroeville, PA 15146
Date: May 14, 15 and 16, 2010
Description: The Pittsburgh Folk Festival began in 1956 with seventeen nationalities whose purpose was to promote “Unity in Diversity” by presenting an annual festival of cultures. The festival now highlights the cultural diversity of more than 25 nationalities in the Pittsburgh area.

Lawrenceville Little Flea (weather permitting) – FREE event w/ affordable shopping
Looking for a weekend Pittsburgh flea market that even offers shoppers some lively entertainment? Lawrenceville Little Flea opens April 3, 2010! It’s a neighborhood marketplace located in Lawrenceville, featuring a variety of flea, thrift, craft, and food. You’ll find furnishings, housewares, clothing, collectibles, books, jewelry and more.

Little Flea is located at the corner of 36th St. and Butler St. in the Goeller’s Parking Lot in Lawrenceville. Hours are Saturdays from 10 am until 5pm, weather permitting. Check the Lawrenceville Little Flea blog for up to date info.
