Happy 8th Anniversary...

Sometimes a personalized request comes thru that really touches our heart. Ordered by the husband for his 8th anniversary, I couldn't help but appreciate the sentiment that went behind his custom message.

Happy 8th Anniversary
I loved you then
I love you now
I will love you forever more.

Custom logo work...

Did you know we do custom logos too?

Here is a special request from a customer who wanted two bears within a heart for their own special reasons.

We were able to make them a custom stamp that looks like the picture below.

What do you think?

Question of the day...Custom logo

"I’m riding in the back of a firetruck and I keep accidentally hitting the send button.lol sorry. I was wondering if I could do a personalized logo in the center. I have combined my wife’s and my initials. I was hoping to put that in the center. I will send a picture of it. It is an R and a J"

Hello and thank you for your interest!
Yes, we can make custom, one time use logos for a surcharge fee.

The fee is dependent on complexity of the artwork.

It's the little things that make our day...

We love hearing from customers:

Name:        Gina R
Message:
I would like to request Email specials. I received a marriage crock as a gift - and love it! It's sitting right in my kitchen, where I can see and use it every day. I think it is a fabulous and personalized gift to give to
friends.

Thank you!

Marriage Crock with Distelfink logo

Although our most popular piece is the marriage crock with the two names and wedding date on it, you can personalize our pieces any way space permits.

I really liked this format for Milliron Farm using the Distelfink logo because we got the inspiration for the distilfink logo from a hex sign on the side of a barn.
It is a Pennsylvania symbol for good luck and fortune.

Waxing & Lining

Waxing the bottom of the pots helps keep glaze from melting and sticking to the kiln shelves.
Each line is hand painted on each pot.

Cobalting...

It's hard to believe the tools you have to combat a kiln load of freshly bisqued pots include a tiny bowl of cobalt and an eye-dropper.
Each letter, logo, and number gets filled with an eye-dropper.
It's a precise (and daunting) process, especially when in a hurry.
It helps to have your own personal cheerleader sitting behind you cheering you on.

Making Our Glaze...

is a lot like baking.
Our glaze recipe includes seven ingredients in exact measurements.
It is mixed together dry, then mixed with water to the right consistency.

(Measuring dry ingredients)
 (Dry mixture)
( Adding water)
 (Mixing)
 (And mixing)
(And mixing. This is my favorite tool, which is used in  glaze making like a food mill)

Glaze Day

Glaze Day is a big deal. It's one of the last steps of a long series of steps that could go wrong.
The pots have been bisqued, decorated, scoured and lined.
Here they are, awaiting the dunking into our special glaze mix that gives them their finished coating.
Each piece is individually dunked into a bucket of glaze.
 Like this...

It's a messy job with the splatter.
But, each piece gets dunked, large and small.
With a pair of glaze tongs.

 The dogs have it easy.

Dog People

Here at Zotter The Potter, we've often referred to ourselves as "dog people", as in "people who love dogs".
But, as the following pictures show, there really are "dog people" out there, as in
"dogs who think they are people".
Thanks to Mirian, our Fedex Ground driver "dog friend" who always brings treats to the
Zotter dogs at the shop when she comes over. These are her dogs in the pictures.

Thanks Mirian!

We love the cookie jar for dogs AND people.

Here are more personalized gift ideas for your special people out there:
The mulberry tree logo is one of our favorites.
This is the blue hen logo.
You can't go wrong with the grapes on the wine cooler shape.

Special Requests pieces

One of our neighbors in the South Side of Pittsburgh is also a dear Zotter customer.
She collected for her daughter personalized pieces to commemorate all the places her daughter has moved and lived. It's a great collection we wanted to share with you.

Handling winter

The process of handling is pretty neat as each potter has their unique approach.

The wind really whipped the snow into a blinding frenzy.
Then the wind would die down and leave beautiful winter wonderland ahead.
